Mwaba Marie Chandia is a visual artist based in Lusaka, Zambia. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Emily Carr University of Art + Design in 2023. Her artistic practice explores themes of identity—both personal and collective—through intricate patterns inspired by Chitenge fabrics, traditional African hairstyles, and nature.
A central aspect of her work is the representation of women, reflecting her personal identity and addressing issues of under-representation and erasure. Through a fusion of these elements, her art conveys a sense of celebration, curiosity, and display.
Chandia’s work seeks to challenge perceptions of Black bodies in media, the arts, and fashion, while also fostering conversations about the deep connections between humans and the natural world.
